An interview with ROBLOX racing game developer: NR – Studios

Introduction

I had the amazing opportunity to sit down with ROBLOX Developer NR – Studios, about upcoming projects he has in the works and how he started NR – Studios

Interview

JT: How did you decide to start NR – Studios? Did you have a passion for making games or did it come between the gap of no NASCAR Games?

NR: Well NR – Studios was originally named NASCAR Racing – Studios when it was first made, got inspired from some existing RO-racing games such as NASCAR Unleashed and Backstretch Battles Remastered, it seemed like a fun thing to go into as previously I’d been a police/roleplay developer, although that didn’t take off compared to how it has been within the RO-racing genre, there wasn’t really many games on ROBLOX relating to NASCAR during the period I began, but soon more games have started to rise up such as Pummu Talladega, just Daytona, Rostock Racing, IDOT Racing and many more

JT: With your upcoming NR2023 Game, do you have a selected timeframe on when that will be released or is it being delayed to 2024?

NR: Well it’s planned to release between now and before the end of December, but if things do go wrong or get out of my control then it’ll likely be delayed to the latest of January or February 2024.

JT: What are your dream goals for NR-Studios going forward?

NR: Just to at least be close to the current competition, with the up-coming releases that’ll hopefully be the case and that it can be improved further among that.

JT: With your upcoming NR-Indy Project will you be replacing logos with non copyrighted logos or alter them, or attempt to retrieve a license?

NR: Well there’s no real focus for it at the current moment or any plans on how things will work, there’ll be more announced on it further on towards when it’s going to be properly developed, during development and before release though.

JT: What should we expect for NR-Ultimate Crew Challenge for the people that don’t know what it’s about?

NR: NR – Ultimate Crew Challenge is a pit-crew style mini-game, referencing real life pit-crew challenges and basically going off of that, you’ll have the option of either going against another player or an entire crew, just competing to beat the other team or player, there’ll be a variety of challenges available, although likely not on launch, but there’ll be old, current and new challenges available, the game is just a fun and hopefully enjoyable experience while developments on more bigger and hyped up games are completed and released, you can use the Texas and North Wilkesboro All-Star challenges as examples, since they’ll be the ones available on release.

JT: With your upcoming NR Next Era Project  what could we possibly expect from it and how could it portray to racing games on the mainstream console line.

NR: NR Next-Era is meant to be what Ignition couldn’t be half the time, a fully playable game. It’s going for the more simulation (but mixed with arcade) and realistic style of game, featuring a (hopefully) fully immerse career mode, taking ideas from other existing career modes, a single player area, for practicing and racing against AI, a multiplayer section, to race against friends, foes or strangers to get to the top.

It’s already gotten a decent amount of hype already so hopefully it won’t disappoint on it’s release, and there’ll be challenge modes as well within as well as a few planned modes/events, like one that was publicly announced a while back, a World Tour style event/mode, basically there’d be fictional (or real tracks) from around the world available in multiplayer and possibly single player. Track developers are already at work with tracks for this as well as the other series for the game, there’s also the Burnout Challenge, taking the Nashville street burnouts but adding a challenge aspect with it being available to do with AI cars or with other players, there’s so much planned for this.

JT: From screenshots that have been posted, real life drivers are also gonna be in the game could you explain this further?

NR: There’s not much to explain on that really, there are currently real drivers, it’s probably a disrespectful thing towards them but I’m just making this for fun really, I’m not that worried about them conflicting with much but if there are any issues with them in the future then they’ll be replaced with fictional drivers as soon as possible, probably looks and sounds wrong how I said it but I’m just here for making a fun game, that’s really it, and honestly I’m not worrying about that at this time. Once complaints from them are received, then it’ll be swapped out for fictional drivers and cars.

JT: No Worries! and for these upcoming games will there be a option for custom schemes with the ID feature

NR: Yes, there’ll be the option to use custom schemes, although it’s currently only planned for the Career Mode and Single Player side of the games, not 100% sure on if it’ll go to multiplayer on release or ever, but just be certain for Career and Single Player you’ll be able to use custom schemes

JT: Understandable, and final question I’m looking to ask, with the innovative changes to ROBLOX entirely, do you feel by the time these games launch the graphics will be up to par with NASCAR Heat or anything

NR: The graphics look and feel a lot better compared to the NASCAR Heat franchise, you could even replicate the NASCAR Ignition style of lighting if you could with how updated it’s been, we’re going for a more realistic style of lighting, like a few games already have, but they should be past the NASCAR Heat style lighting honestly For NR Next-Era and more.

JT: I want to thank you for taking time out of your evening to come out and do this interview

NR: No worries, glad you reached out for it!
