As the final game of the 2023 World Series came to an end last night, the Texas Rangers came out on top of the Arizona Diamondbacks, earning the team’s first World Series title in franchise history.
However, that was not the only history-making moment from this season’s World Series win.
As the final inning ended, Georgia native Will Smith became the first player in MLB history to clinch three consecutive World Series titles, each with a different team. Smith also became the first professional athlete in North America to win three-straight championships on three different teams as well.
Will Smith was a part of the Atlanta Braves’ roster when the team clinched its first World Series trophy since 1995 in 2021. After that win, Smith was traded to the Houston Astros for the 2022 season, where he was able to gain his second World Series win.
Spending one season with the Astros, Smith signed a one-year contract with the Texas Rangers, where he was able to participate in his third World Series victory.
While Smith has been on a few different teams throughout his career, this Georgia native will go down in the history books in the MLB, something that fans and everyone in his hometown are proud of.
