IndyCar is moving towards a reunion with IRacing Motorsport SImulations in 2024, This comes after Penske Entertainment Corp. left iRacing for Motorsport Games in 2023 for a now-canceled video game.
Since then, the IndyCar video game license agreement with Motorsport Games has been terminated by Penske Entertainment Corporation following the company’s uncertain future
This deal between the two companies would reestablish what was lost after the IndyCar Series franchise signed on with Motorsport Games in 2021. The deal went into effect in 2023 when IndyCar moved exclusively to Motorsport Games in 2023.
iRacing was no longer able to offer events or use IndyCar’s official branding and they could no longer offer officially sanctioned “iRacing Indy 500” events.
Rumors are stating that talks with IndyCar and iRacing are moving swiftly, and if made official, the move with iRacing would be a tremendous boost for IndyCar. Just one month after announcing that they had terminated the deal with the Miami-based developer the company announced that the Indycar game scheduled to release in 2024 would be halting development due to funding.
iRacing previously said “that it was possible that the sides could get back into business.” iRacing Executive VP Steve Myers has indicated that while an agreement may be reached in the near future, development and release of the game could still be years away.
IndyCar has also been featured in many other games to fill in for the absence of officially licensed standalone games. IndyCar has been featured in the Project Cars and the Forza Motorsport franchises in the past.
The Motorsport Games IndyCar video game was originally set to come out in 2023 before being delayed until 2024, in what would have been the series’ first console video game since 2005. With an official announcement reportedly set for sometime in Q1 of 2024, i know a lot of people on the service are going to enjoy having the series back on iRacing.
