Lewis Hamilton will be making a move to Scuderia Ferrari at the start of the 2025 season, giving the Tifosi a new face to cheer on every Sunday.
McLaren 2007-2012
Since joining McLaren in 2007, he was already becoming the star of the paddock and showcased what the future of F1 would look like. During the 2008 season with McLaren, he won his first World Drivers Championship, securing his place in Formula One history.
In his six-year stint with McLaren, he achieved 21 victories, 26 pole positions, and 49 podiums during this time.
Mercedes 2013-2024
He made the move to Mercedes AMG-Petronas Formula One team in the 2013 offseason, due to the retiring Michael Schumacher. Many fans questioned this move to Mercedes, as they had only won a single race two seasons prior.
This move was the best choice Lewis Hamilton could have ever made though, as he would take his career to a whole other level at Mercedes.
From 2014 to 2020, Lewis won six World Driver Championships, with teammate Nico Rosberg taking one in 2016. The 2016 season is highly debated as one of the best seasons the sport has ever seen because both Silver Arrows were battling each other all season.
During Lewis’s time with Mercedes, he racked up 82 wins, 78 pole positions, and 148 podiums.
At 39, Lewis has always said he has more in the tank and is hungry for that 8th World Drivers Championship.
At the end of the 2024 season, Lewis Hamilton will be joining Ferrari on a Multi-Year deal, driving alongside teammate Charles Leclerc. He had signed an extension with the team going through 2025, but used his release clause to leave the team a year earlier.
Lewis stated this afternoon that “Mercedes has been part of my life since I was 13… leaving was one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make.”
He also added, “The time is right for me to take this step and I’m excited to be taking on a new challenge. I will be forever grateful for the incredible support of my Mercedes family, especially Toto for his friendship and leadership and I want to finish on a high together. I am 100% committed to delivering the best performance I can this season and making my last year with the Silver Arrows, one to remember.”
When news broke of this deal, it shocked fans around the world. Lewis and Ferrari have been rumored to be in talks since 2019, but Lewis has always stated he is loyal to the Mercedes family.
Ferrari era 2025-????
This is a very questionable decision by Lewis to many fans though, as a Ferrari driver has not won a World Drivers Championship since 2007 with Kimi Raikkonen.
It will be a strange sight to see Lewis in red every weekend, but I think we are all curious about what his future will look like with them.
Will Lewis be able to do the same thing he did after his move from McLaren to Mercedes? Only time will tell.
